This summer Old Park Primary were planning to host the Telford Culture Zone and Find your Talent Partnership day on the 30th June. We were very pleased that we were able to work with the culture zone to organise this event which will involve lots of our children becoming, chefs, conference organisers, interior designers and more… Unfortunately the conference had to be cancelled this term because of Government cuts to funding for the Borough but the range of activities the children have experienced has been fantastic!
Organising such an important event has given us the opportunity for lots of children to learn more about different careers by working alongside professionals. As ever we are giving the children the opportunity to bring their own creative ideas to life through the conference.
Richard Shrewsbury our Creative Agent and Mrs Haywood will be working with a team of about 10 children to organise the event, thinking about things like, tables, chairs, parking, movement of people around the school, signage, timings, delegate packs and registration.
Fine Fayre Catering, Angela Cleary, will be working with about eight Year 6 pupils to come up with an adventurous, interesting, tasty and achievable menu and schedule for refreshments to give our delegates a different experience.
Year 3 and some Year 6 pupils will be working with Tony Yardley, Professional Sculpture to create a design to make the school hall look more like a professional conference venue. They will be carving things from large sheets of polystyrene and arranging them to make the venue look really impressive.
Year 4F will be spending one more day with sound artist Iain Armstrong to make an inventive sound track to be played at the beginning of the day and at the breaktimes.
We are going to be visiting a hotel conference venue, meeting professional conference organisation teams and chefs and looking around facilities to provide a basis for the children’s ideas to develop.
